Allegory

This is really just a Star Trek link for Michael. That link is complaining about another link where the writer is complaining about how sci-fi used to be just bashing aliens but is now getting all allegorical and shit.

Problem is (with the second link) that sci-fi is historically very much allegorical, and it is only more recently that blowing crap up was the primary directive of making a science fictiony film...probably starting with Star Wars.

Jacob,

Very true, SF as always been allegorical. About 1/4 TOS episodes are allegories fo the cold war. It goes way earlier than that, though. Using aliens to point out the human condition is the main point of SF. And blowing stuff up, if only Michael Bay directed Star Trek....

Matt could have picked a much better episode to illustrate his point: "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" is one of the worst episodes. Its so direct and not entertaining that Matt must not be a true trekker, that episode was just stuck with him.
